Hatching Eggs

We now offer Silver Appleyard hatching eggs. Our flock is pasture-raised and free-range. Our breeding stock was carefully selected from over 150 individuals to promote favorable breed characteristics, including size, conformation, and correct plumage.

Silver Appleyards are a rare heritage breed. They are among the best layers of the large breeds, laying up to 250 jumbo eggs per year, even in cold weather so long as adequate food and nesting space is provided. They are slow growing, but our birds dressed out to an average of a 3.7lb carcass, which is enough to feed 2-4 people. Their meat is lean and delicious with a different flavor profile compared to pekin.

Personality-wise, it's hard to beat a Silver Appleyard. They are sociable, calm, and friendly, and they make a nice barnyard addition. Drakes are not overly aggressive toward hens.

Hatching eggs are $4/egg for on-farm pick-up or for delivery to downtown Ava with a minimum order of 2 dozen.
